Please Note! * This is a chapter from my book that I am planning on having finished by the end of 2025. Enjoy. It's a little long. Here we gooooooo! Many times when we are triggered ( angry, hurt, disappointed etc. ) in someone or something, we will want to retaliate. Taking it a step further, we may want to retreat or seek revenge in some way. Bring to the person or situation some sort of emotional punishment to feel relief and justification. Other times we may allow inertia to set in. Give up. Lose interest. The many ways we handle “off “ emotions can usually be reduced down to these four responses. Fight, flight, freeze or fawn. We can resort to these intentionally, but sometimes the subconscious mind will kick in and we will have these negative responses without being fully aware of how we are giving the payback or even self sabotaging our joy. From my experience, I have found that there are layers to these responses—it doesn’t always look loud. Sometimes it’s silent and strategic, other times impulsive and explosive. Think of it like energetic packaging: small, medium, or large, depending on how threatened our inner/ outer wound feels.” We may choose a quiet withdrawal or a dramatic mic drop. The deeper the wound, the bigger the reaction. But first I want to talk about the subconscious mind and how it might take over and see us resorting to emotional weaponry and retaliatory responses. And like I said, not always with our conscious consent. By understanding what our subconscious mind is and how it works, we can take an even deeper dive into transforming our shadow aspects. This part of us, our subconscious, records everything. It is that vast, inner part of our mind operating beneath our level of conscious awareness. The quiet puppeteer behind the curtain. It can hold onto old wounds and ingrained patterns of behavior, which is often why it kicks in without us even realizing it. It's hidden programming can drive reactions that feel automatic, even when they don’t serve us anymore. It’s not out to get us. It’s actually trying to protect us. Here’s the catch: it only knows how to do that by using outdated instructions from a time when we were wounded, scared, or trying to survive. This part of us doesn’t operate through logic. It operates through emotional memory, repetition, and energetic imprinting. It soaks up everything—especially the painful, confusing, or formative experiences—and tucks them away like instructions for “how to be safe in this world.” It”s an giant emotional archive that stores :
After we’ve been hurt, let down, or rejected, our subconscious creates quiet rules and phrases that will come through as our own self talk. When we go through a wounding experience—whether acute (like heartbreak, betrayal) or chronic (like neglect, shame, or control)—our subconscious doesn’t just remember the event, it adapts to it. It also creates quiets rules and guidelines to live by, to keep us safe and secure from any future pain. It says “ this is our internal rulebook, this is how we protect ourselves from now on. ” These protective mechanisms sound and feel like :
And on and on the list goes. It records everything, especially during times of emotional intensity—because it’s not analytical, it’s protective and reactive. And it’s operating about 90–95% of the time, running the majority of our behaviors, reactions, and even feelings, as our background operating system. It will start running automatic patterns when a situation feels even remotely similar to past wounding. This is what I call a “past wound overlay." It doesn’t care if we're successful or in love or have pretty wheels—it cares if we’re safe, according to its outdated definition of safety. The subconscious is like the soul’s memory bank in this incarnation—housing karmic imprints, family templates, this life and past life trauma’s. It’s not that we’re weak or unaware—it’s that our subconscious is hijacking our conscious desires in the name of survival. Until these desires are brought into conscious awareness, the subconscious will keep recreating the same emotional “themes,” hoping we will finally learn, resolve and transform them. It’s not our enemy—it’s the protector of our past. It’s the reason we may:
Our internal GPS is stuck on the same ole' old map: it keeps taking us through backroads we thought we’d outgrown. It says: “You survived last time by shutting down, by pushing people away, by disappearing, by arguing and fighting, by over giving. Let’s do that again shall we? Let’s not risk something new please, I've had enough ” So even when our conscious mind says, “I want real love,” our subconscious might whisper, “But real love feels dangerous.” “ I want connection but our subconscious might whisper “ I can’t trust groups of people.“ “I want more money“ but subconscious whispers“ “It will be too much work and I’m not sure if I know how. “More exercise“ “I’m too out of shape to even start. “ You get the idea. Stuck as Fuck. (pardon my Portuguese) In spiritual terms, our subconscious is the soul’s storage room. It holds the echoes of our karma, the voice of our inner child, the patterns of our ancestors, and the vows our heart once made to stay safe. But we’re not meant to live forever inside those old contracts. We came to rewrite them. Our subconscious is powerful. But our conscious awareness—our presence, our light, our soul—is even more powerful. The moment we bring loving awareness to an old pattern, we’re not just changing our story—we’re changing our vibration. And once our vibration changes, we then are effecting change and amping up the vibrational frequency of the entire world. Check This Out for Scientific Proof ! Carl Jung said, “Until we make the unconscious conscious, it will direct our life and we will call it fate.” I believe that this quote is an invitation into how deep we may want to really know ourselves. As Victims of Our Circumstance or As Creators of Our Reality ? When we look at our life as fated, because we have allowed ourselves to be led by our unconscious programing, then we are saying I am a victim of my programming, are we not? Let's transform this shall we? Healing The Subconscious Begins When You: 1 - Notice the Pattern – Awareness is the first portal. We can’t change what we’re not aware of. The very first step in healing the subconscious is recognizing the loop you’re in. Ask yourself:
2 - Name the Origin – “Where did I learn this? Who modeled this for me?” Track it back to it’s roots. This means asking:
Tracking is soul retrieval. It’s how we reclaim the younger self who made a decision out of fear, abandonment, or rejection—and never updated it. For some, this means revisiting childhood, teenage years, and the experiences of pain and deep imprinting that we have had up to now, that has created the most wounding with-in us. Naming the origin gives the wound a voice—and when it’s witnessed, it begins to soften and be open for transformation. 3 - Validate the Inner Wound - Honoring our younger self’s emotional logic. So many of our reactions aren’t coming from our wise adult selves—they’re coming from the younger self, still carrying unmet needs, unresolved grief, or frozen fear. That younger self is part of the ego structure, and the ego is a sub - personality / subpart within the subconscious mind , whose job it is to protect us, at all costs. And don't forget it's Y O U N G E R and a bit stuck there. I speak often of these subparts in my work, as they hold insightful keys into why we do what we do, say what we say and feel like we feel. Healing doesn’t mean shaming the ego. It means:
In my Intuitive Therapy sessions, I guide clients into sacred dialoguing with the inner child, using visualization, somatic awareness, and my Healing the Memories Meditation to create safety for integration. This step is essential. It’s the difference between bypassing and true healing. 4 - Rewire with Intention – Introduce new beliefs, behaviors, and learning on how to set compassionate boundaries, instead of acting in retaliation, revenge or retreating. Now that the pattern has been seen, traced, and honored— we can rewire. Rewiring means forming new neural pathways—repetitive thoughts, feelings, and actions that eventually override the old code. This includes:
Often, we retaliate, go into the amygdala driven responses ( flight, fight, freeze or fawn) because we don’t know how to pause, speak our truth, or say no with love. We’ve been taught to prioritize other’s approval over our own inner truth, leaving us disconnected from our sacred values and needs. This requires us to revisit what are values truly are and what it is we truly need, otherwise we will just keep pointing the finger at others and making them the problem. In my Intuitive Therapy work and sometimes in my other offerings, I guide you in energetic boundary-setting, vocal release, and value determination work. In addition I can guide you in RE-Imagining You! through a custom guided visualization / meditation or my Flight, Fight, Freeze & Fawn to Freedom Meditation when you are in high stress and can't get out. These meditations help imprint the subconscious with a new internal identity and reality. You can’t just delete the old program—you have to replace it. Like a computer, the old file must be written over with something new, intentional, and empowering. 5 - Practice Until Embodied – Repetition, ritual, somatic healing, and visualization help the new pattern take root. Transformation / Healing isn’t a one-time realization. It’s a sacred practice. It’s the consistent choosing of a new path—creating new neuronets in the brain until it you become the you that you have been waiting on. This is how the subconscious accepts the new program:
This is the spiritual gym. It’s not about perfection. It’s about repetition with deep compassion and commitment to our conscious up leveling. The more we practice the new pattern, the weaker the old one becomes—until eventually, it breaks and the new supportive pattern ( thought, feeling, belief ) takes form. “Neurons that fire together, wire together.” — Dr. Joe Dispenza I highly recommend watching a quick Youtube video : youtu.be/zO3bI1gAmVs?si=V1yPDyqHCXh9hO6z called ReWired.
